Ukulele Lessons

JIMMY C.

banjo

Jimmy has been playing music since early elementary school. He studied drums for nearly 10 years before teaching privately. He is not only an outstanding drummer, but he is also a wonderful teacher! Jimmy’s other loves include playing Banjo, Ukulele, and other Bluegrass/Folk instruments.  He has attended many festivals, clinics, and other seminars to further his music education. He teaches Scruggs’  “three finger pick style” which he has learned from many great pickers, including Earl Scruggs himself!

A banjo playing drummer may seem strange to some, but Jimmy has played with several local bands and has been teaching privately for several years now.  He is currently working on his Associates degree in liberal arts at Northern Virginia Community College.

JOSH M.

guitarbwJosh became involved with music when he was 10 years old after receiving his first guitar for Christmas. He taught himself for 3 years before starting private lessons with Michael Bailey, a Berklee College of Music graduate and one of the guitarists for the band Stryper. Bailey helped to cultivate a love for the guitar in Josh and by the time he was 15, he knew that he wanted to be a professional musician. After 6 years of studying with Bailey, Josh started taking private lessons with internationally acclaimed jazz guitarist Rick Whitehead. Josh continues to study with Whitehead, who is a professor at both George Mason University and the Shenandoah Music Conservatory. Josh is currently in music school at George Mason University and intends to graduate in the fall of 2013.

Josh teaches all levels and styles of guitar to students of all ages. Because music is all about experimentation and discovery, Josh tries to serve as a facilitator for music rather than just a teacher. He has a laid back teaching style that allows the students to be challenged while still giving them the ability to set their own pace in the lessons. Whether the student wants to learn advanced techniques, music theory, or just their favorite songs, Josh is able to break down seemingly complex musical concepts into simple lessons.

Josh teaches electric, acoustic, and bass guitars, as well as ukulele.
